Tips to Succeed in the Numerical Ability Test:
- Focus on Basics of the Number System:
This round often covers questions on percentages, ratios, averages, and basic arithmetic operations. Make sure you understand foundational number concepts and practice calculations to increase accuracy and speed. - Manage Your Time Effectively:
Since you have limited time, try not to spend too long on any single question. It can help to quickly skim through all questions at the beginning, so you can tackle easier ones first and leave more challenging questions for later. - Practice with Timed Tests:
Regularly practicing timed numerical ability tests will help you get accustomed to working under pressure and improve your response time. Focus on accuracy first, as this will build confidence and naturally increase your speed. - Use Shortcuts and Mental Math:
Familiarizing yourself with mental math techniques and shortcuts for quick calculations can save valuable time. This will help you answer questions quickly without needing to rely on lengthy calculations.
Second round:
The second round of the TCS BPS interview process is a verbal ability test that reveals how well you can analyze written information. They’re designed to assess your ability to understand what you’ve read. Here are the tips on how to pass a verbal ability test in a TCS interview.
Read and re-read each text:
Verbal reasoning test passages are considered sometimes written in complex languages.
Small assumptions catch you out. So read each passage two or three-time to make sure you understand what’s being said, in the passage, before the answer. The first and foremost important thing is, that you read the instructions thoroughly so you don’t miss the vital information. So kindly select the right answer for the question.
Make an assumption that doesn’t work:
Don’t allow general knowledge or real-life experience to disprove a statement. If include something in the passage that couldn’t affect your decision-making process when you are answering the verbal reasoning question.
Manage your time with tests:
How many questions do you need to answer within that time? Calculate that you can devote to each question and stick to it. Most of the verbal reasoning tests should take around 20 minutes. Always be ahead and see how many questions are related to the statement, Usually between three or five questions will come. If you’re stuck on a question don’t waste time trying to figure out the right. As always though, accuracy is more important than speed.
Improve your English:
- If English is your second language. You can find that verbal reasoning tests are harder. Practice is even more important for your reading ability. You should read an article in English newspapers, try to read The times magazine, financial, economic.
- If you’re going to test your real verbal reasoning test online, then make sure to complete your practice test online. Reading on-screen can take longer than the newspaper you can use it.
- When practicing a question, always invest time reviewing the questions you get wrong.
- The will to succeed is important but more important is to prepare. Get a grip on your questions. Keep practicing yourself, it will make you confident. Increase your learning ability, allow you to learn from your mistake, and helps you answer each question faster.

Kalpana, Associate at Tata Consultancy Services (2018-present)
I am currently working in TCS BPS(domestic) unit. My salary is 16000 INR(without deduction) and I get 200 INR extra each day for working in night shift. Also, I was selected to move to Pune from my hometown for work, TCS pays me a 2000 INR city change allowance for that. So my whole salary is 23000 INR as of today.
Kavitha, Business Analyst at Tata Consultancy Services (2014-2020)
Positives:
- Learn corporate culture in a bit it was a harder way but it makes you quite efficient and pro-active
- You gain domain experience because most of the projects are related to operations
- Get an opportunity to learn the work of multiple roles at a time
- Good for associates from Financial background
- Good onsite opportunities are available for the ones carrying domain expertise as a Business Analyst
Negatives:
- Nobody gives the payroll you get in BPS as variable components are higher
- Expect extended working hours due to operations and report on time the very next day
- You cannot carry your mobile inside the bps premises without a valid sticker or your TCS ID. No camera phones are allowed at all
- Work burden is more in comparison to IT and expects to handle a lot of compliance-related stuff apart from regular operations
- If you are a consistent C rated for 2 years expect your approval to get rejected from the Global RMG head in case you are selected for any onsite opportunity
- Worst RMG and HR you will see to date
- There are more cons than pros so pls take a call after careful analysis. TCS IT is any day better than BPS.
Komathi, (works at Tata Consultancy Services)
- TCS IT is more related to software implementation and support work (as TCS has very few of its products). The employees hired are mostly BE, B Tech, MBA, MCA, and BCA.
- TCS BPSis more related to business process support/outsourcing kind of work. Like performing some market research or helping other companies in performing some of their business processes. Graduates other than the ones mentioned above are hired.
- IT pays almost double the money for the same amount of experience(no of years).
- In BPS the growth and learning can be an issue as I have a few friends there who said that in the initial 3–4 months there was more learning because of new work, after that it was just the same work day after day.
- Mostly it’s the case that you don’t have a choice. You are either eligible for IT or BPS (IT eligible guy can go in BPS but won’t as obviously IT will pay more and better career option).
